Fisher Associates’ Expert Design Enables Successful Completion of Genesee County’s South Lyon Street Bridge Replacement

July 14, 2023

Congratulations to Genesee County on completing the South Lyon Street Bridge Replacement Project in Batavia, New York! The existing truss bridge on South Lyon Street over Tonawanda Creek was closed to traffic due to the deterioration of the structural members. Because of the bridge’s age and structure type, it could not be rehabilitated, and replacement is warranted.

To meet the County’s project goals, Fisher Associates designed a complete replacement of the existing truss bridge with a new truss on a modified roadway alignment to improve the intersection with South Main Street. The new steel truss bridge is built to meet current structural standards and provides a service life of 50 years. In addition, the structure is galvanized to maximize corrosion protection and minimize maintenance costs associated with painting the truss. A single slope concrete barrier protects the truss from salt spray, further reducing the maintenance of the structure.

We look forward to seeing the new bridge in action!
