Maple City Rail Trail Connector

November 11, 2019

As the preferred modes of travel expand beyond single occupancy vehicles, Fisher Associates works with communities to provide safe and sustainable multi-modal transportation infrastructure. We are excited to be working with the City of Ogdensburg on the Maple City Rail Trail Connector project which will convert an abandoned railroad bridge and corridor into a pedestrian and bicyclist trail that connects to the existing Maple City Trail and extends to Route 812.  During our bridge inspection, we observed that while the thru-girders were in good condition, Pier 1 was in critical condition due to deterioration and needed to be replaced, which was not anticipated when the project was originally scoped by the City.   The City worked diligently to obtain funding and received a grant from FHWA through NYSDOT to replace this pier, allowing the rail trail connector project to progress and complete a critical link in the community’s existing Maple City Trail Network.   As we progress, we are excited to see this project come to fruition!
