Buffalo’s waterfront, river, and harbor corridors contain some of the city’s most strategically located land, yet decades of industrial decline left widespread brownfield contamination, fragmented land use, and limited public access that constrained reinvestment and neighborhood connectivity. Addressing these challenges required a coordinated, corridor-scale approach. Fisher Associates led three concurrent Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) studies, integrating brownfield inventories, strategic site profiling, and implementable mobility and land use concepts tailored to each corridor’s industrial legacy and redevelopment potential. By aligning environmental remediation with transportation access and market opportunity, the plans provided the City of Buffalo with clear, actionable strategies to unlock redevelopment, restore access to waterways, and support healthy, connected, and economically resilient communities.
