Rochester, NY
Client:
NYS Department of Transportation
Quick Facts:

One of the first Diverging Diamond Interchanges in the United States

Included 4D traffic simulations to support design and public engagement

Recognized by ITE and ACEC for innovation and project excellence

To address congestion and improve safety along a critical regional corridor, the reconstruction of the I-590 and Winton Road Interchange required advanced analysis and innovative design solutions. Fisher Associates provided real-time, 4D traffic and visual simulations, earning sole source designation by NYSDOT, to evaluate multiple complex alternatives. The team developed traffic forecasts and capacity analyses to assess options including ramp relocations, triple left exit ramps, and partial cloverleaf configurations. Through close coordination with NYSDOT, Fisher helped advance a preferred solution featuring a Diverging Diamond Interchange—one of the first in the United States. This forward-thinking design enhances traffic flow, reduces conflict points, and improves safety while supporting efficient regional mobility. The project received industry recognition for innovation and excellence in transportation design.
