The Highland Crossing Trail project created a critical 3.3-mile connection between the Erie Canalway Trail, Genesee Riverway Trail, and Highland Park—three of the region’s most heavily used recreational assets. Fisher Associates designed a combination of on-road and off-road segments to improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and cyclists. The project included roadway upgrades, a new 10-foot-wide off-road trail, and replacement of an outdated boardwalk within sensitive wetland areas. Extensive coordination with environmental agencies and multiple municipalities ensured compliance while minimizing impacts. The result is a seamless, well-signed corridor that enhances mobility and strengthens regional trail connectivity.
