Originally constructed in 1930, Hopkins Avenue Bridge had reached the end of its service life due to severe deterioration of the deck and structural steel, along with scour concerns at the foundations. Fisher Associates designed a modern replacement structure that meets current standards while improving long-term durability and reducing maintenance needs. The project required careful coordination due to nearby sensitive infrastructure, including a glass factory, pump station, and residential property. The new single-span bridge minimizes impacts to adjacent utilities and right-of-way while maintaining hydraulic performance and supporting an existing sewer line, resulting in a safer, more resilient crossing.
