For the City of Elmira, rehabilitating the Main Street Bridge over the Chemung River was critical to preserving a key transportation link while addressing significant structural deterioration. Aging steel components, a deteriorated concrete deck, and safety hazards along pedestrian areas required a comprehensive, data-driven solution. Fisher Associates performed detailed inspections using advanced techniques such as ground-penetrating radar and thermal imaging to fully understand existing conditions. The project ultimately expanded to include full deck replacement, steel rehabilitation, and upgrades to drainage, lighting, and pedestrian features. This integrated approach improved safety, enhanced durability, and ensured the bridge continues to support the community’s mobility needs for years to come.
