Congestion, safety concerns, and drainage issues at the intersection of Route 6N and SR 99 prompted a comprehensive study to improve operations and enhance multimodal safety. Fisher Associates conducted traffic data collection and analysis across seven intersections, evaluating both existing and future conditions to define project needs and guide solution development. The team developed and modeled multiple alternatives—including a roundabout, geometric improvements, and traffic diversion strategies—using Synchro analysis to assess performance. Extensive public outreach, including meetings with community members, businesses, and local officials, shaped the final outcome. The selected solution incorporates targeted geometric improvements, optimized signal phasing and timing, and coordinated signals with adjacent intersections, improving traffic flow and reducing crashes while avoiding impacts to a nearby historic resource.
