Project Story
This confidential battery storage project includes the development of a 20 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) that will be connected to an existing substation to help the utility with grid stability. This project uses containerized batteries with inverters to store energy during off-peak times and release it during peak times.
Fisher Associates performed topographic surveying to gather information on the ground contours and existing features. This information was used to develop preliminary site plans to aid in the permitting process. The permitting plans included the development of grading, erosion and sediment control, stormwater design, and landscaping plans. Department of Transportation (DOT) permits also had to be prepared to support the local permitting and visual simulations were prepared to show how the site currently looks and how it is expected to look after construction.
A challenge this project had was that the publically available information on the floodplain appeared to be in conflict with the topography that was surveyed which led us to perform a floodplain analysis at the site to ensure the project improvements were not in the floodplain. Our Energy Team utilized the surveyed data and information from FEMA to create cross-sections across the project area to determine the actual floodplain limit.
