Project Story

This project encompasses designing approximately 2,400 LF of 8-inch watermain, associated hydrants, services, and appurtenances along Maple Road in Amherst, NY.

Fisher developed solutions to several unique challenges associated with this project. The first was excavation and vibratory restrictions due to an existing 20” steel high pressure gas transmission line conflict located on the south side of Maple Road. Extensive coordination with various utility companies, town, and county officials was required to prepare construction documents. Detailed construction notes were required to ensure compliance with restrictions.

The second major obstacle was the volume of traffic on Maple Road. Maple Road is the busiest road in Erie County’s system, with approximately 30,000 vehicles per day traveling this route. Detailed Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (M&PT) plans were required to allow safe staging of the project for interconnections. Careful planning of interconnects and pipeline alignment helped keep lane closures to a minimum.
