Project Story

The New York Power Authority (NYPA) is subject to stormwater discharge regulations under United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA)/ New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) regulations at the Niagara Division.

In 2017, Fisher Associates was awarded a four-year term contract with NYPA to provide routine monthly water quality sampling of outfalls, turbines, and valves at the Niagara Region Power project location to ensure that outputs are within compliance of NYPAs State Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (SPDES) permits. Fisher is responsible for collecting stormwater samples from discharge points across the Niagara Division site and having them analyzed by a NYS DOH-approved laboratory for oil & grease, total suspended solids (TSS), iron, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In addition to water quality sampling and monthly water quality reporting, Fisher’s team of environmental specialists provide SPDES Permit compliance and electronic upload of monitoring data to NYSDEC.
