Project Story

National Fuel Gas (NFG) proposed a gas line replacement running parallel to State Route 33 and crossing other county and town roads.  Our Geomatics team surveyed the pipeline corridor and created GIS pipeline construction mapping and provided survey stake out for pipeline construction and as-built of new pipeline.  Our Energy team produced highway work permit applications, which consisted of proposed pipeline installation plans and details. Due to the extent of pipeline within the state right-of-way, the permit process was much more complicated.  We had to address comments from multiple New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) branches in order to receive approval, which included the Landscape Department.  They were extremely concerned about the amount of trees being removed for this pipeline installation.  In order to put them at ease, the Energy and Geomatics groups teamed up to create a tree planting plan to show that the inches of trees being removed from the NYSDOT right-of-way would be replaced by 150 trees somewhere else along the road.  This mapping was the final piece prior to receiving approval from NYSDOT in order for NFG to proceed with the project construction.
