The Whole Foods building was constructed in 2016-2017. The new store is located in the Northtown Plaza on Sheridan Drive in the Town of Amherst. The original site consisted of a vacant two story Bon-Ton building acting as an anchor store to an existing strip mall. The site consisted of virtually no landscaping and was not thriving.
The project consisted of the design and approval of all related site improvements including demolition of the existing building, access, circulation, parking, landscape, site lighting, utilities, and stormwater management facilities. The project required numerous municipal approvals including the Town Zoning Board of Appeals for required variances, Town Planning Board for site plan approval, and NYSDOT for improvements to the site access points. The final site plan included a new stand-alone 50,000 square foot food market facility with over 400 parking spaces and over 25,000 square feet of landscaping which includes over 100 new trees, over 500 shrubs, and over 1,250 perennials and grasses.
