Chris Smith, P.E., serves as Chief Innovation Officer (CIO) at Fisher Associates. In this role, Chris leads the firm’s innovation strategy, driving forward-thinking initiatives that enhance service delivery, leverage emerging technologies, and position Fisher at the forefront of engineering, planning, and design excellence. As CIO, he works across all service lines to identify new opportunities, improve processes, foster creative problem-solving, and ensure the firm continues to evolve in response to client needs and industry trends.
With more than three decades of experience and a career at Fisher spanning back to 1994, Chris embodies the firm’s Clientship Philosophy™, prioritizing proactive communication, strategic insight, and exceptional client experience. His diverse background includes roles as Traffic Engineer, Project Manager, Traffic and Highway Group Manager, Construction Inspection Manager, Director of Energy, Business Development Manager for Renewables and Energy, Director of Marketing and Business Development, Vice President, Executive Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer.
Chris has successfully managed projects across every market and service line offered by Fisher, bringing a holistic understanding of the firm’s capabilities and clients’ evolving challenges. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in 20 states and is affiliated with the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), American Planning Association (APA), and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
