Traffic and safety analysis determines how a project looks and functions in the future. Reliable analysis is the backbone of all projects for it drives the design layout, how traffic will travel through the project area, and how it fits with the regional master plan. The goal is to identify feasible mitigation to minimize impacts to the community while enhancing traffic mobility and safety for all users. Examining the link between land use, traffic forecasting and operational traffic analysis is necessary in the planning process to understand the impact of a project on the transportation system. Traffic analysis is critical to show that future traffic patterns work in concert with the adjacent road networks in terms of the overall master plan, long range traffic growth, and traffic distribution. We use the latest traffic analysis software such as HCS, SYNCHRO, and VISSIM to analyze and evaluate existing conditions, to identify problems and impacts, and to provide recommendations for appropriate countermeasures to mitigate identified network deficiencies.


Fisher is an industry leader in the use of VISSIM, a robust 4D traffic simulation program that is used for modeling of expressways & interchanges, corridors, roundabouts, transit centers, and pedestrian & bicyclist interactions with motorized users. Microscopic simulation models are powerful tools to demonstrate the traffic impact on roadway networks under future conditions. Fisher has used VISSIM for complex modeling on NYSDOT projects such as a Single Point Interchange, major commercial corridor, multi-lane roundabouts, and a Diverging Diamond Interchange. VISSIM traffic software is utilized for project analysis of intricate traffic networks. It’s accurate and realistic when analyzing saturated traffic flows and queuing. It allows for modeling of unique road configurations, vehicle maneuvers, and dynamic driver types.
